NULGE, NUT, others scramble for Fayemi's rice
The Minister of Solid Minerals Development, Dr Kayode Fayemi, yesterday distributed food items to some residents of the state, including civil servants to cushion the adverse effects of unpaid salaries. Those who benefitted from the gesture, which nearly ended in a stampede, included civil servants, artisans, nursing mothers, the physically challenged, Okada riders and students. The minister, a former governor of the state, represented by the Director of the Centre, Mr Abiodun Omoleye, said the wind of hunger blowing in Ekiti called for concern , advising residents to engage in farming to improve food production.
Fayemi said the programme was meant to help the poor citizens in the face of the current economic situation and not to score cheap political point. “The wind of hunger blowing in Ekiti now is unpleasant. It seems hunger is gradually taking over the land and that is why we must continue to identify with the people,” he said.
