Soyinka meets 82 pupils on corruption
Nobel Laurent Professor Wole Soyinka will today meet with 82 pupils from various secondary schools across the country to talk about corruption and other social vices in Abeokuta, Ogun State.
Governor Ibikunle Amosun had yesterday congratulated the Nobel Laureate on his 82nd birthday, describing his life as eventful.
The meeting with the pupils, who represent the 82 years the literary icon is celebrating, will take place at his (Soyinka’s) residence. He will also be meeting with the 18 past winners of the Wole Soyinka International Cultural Exchange (WSICE) project
The Executive Producer of WSICE, Alhaji Teju Kareem, said, “This year’s theme for the youth segment is aimed at awakening the patriot in young Nigerians, even as many in the older generation have become disillusioned due to the recurrent failure of the Nigerian State.”
Governor Amosun, in a release by his Special Senior Assistant (Media), Adejuwon Soyinka, said Wole Soyinka’s life had been spiced with numerous accomplishments and a track record of excellence. “With your towering intellect, you have been a blessing to Nigeria, Africa and indeed the whole world. Nigeria has benefitted immensely from your fountain of knowledge, wealth of experience, leadership qualities and political interventions at critical stages of the development of our dear country,” the governor said.
