3 die as 2-storey build­ing col­lapses in Anam­bra

Three ar­ti­sans died yes­ter­day at Ndi­agu Ogidi, Ide­mili North Lo­cal Gov­ern­ment Area, Anam­bra State, when a two-storey build­ing un­der con­struc­tion col­lapsed.

Wit­nesses said the land­lord and two oth­ers, who were work­ing on top of the build­ing when it col­lapsed in the wee hours of the morn­ing, sur­vived.

Daily Trust gath­ered that the de­ceased were first taken to a nearby hospi­tal where they were con­firmed dead be­fore the corpses were de­posited at Iyi-Enu hospi­tal.

The State Po­lice Com­mis­sioner, Mr. Korma Horsea, Ogidi Di­vi­sional Po­lice Of­fi­cer, DPO, Mr. Has­san Musa and the Pres­i­dent Gen­eral of Ogidi Union Nige­ria, Chief Chuka Onubogu, vis­ited the scene and as­sisted in the res­cue op­er­a­tions.

The CP urged the peo­ple in the area to take heart and prayed for the re­pose of the souls of the dead.

Chief Onubogu at­trib­uted the cause of the col­lapse to fake build­ing ma­te­ri­als.

It will be re­called that four build­ings col­lapsed in Anam­bra in re­cent times with two at Oko and Amaok­pala, both in Orumba North coun­cil area, and the other at Abaka­liki street Awka, in Awka South coun­cil area.
