- From Emma Elekwa, Awka

Three artisans died yesterday at Ndiagu Ogidi, Idemili North Local Government Area, Anambra State, when a two-storey building under construction collapsed.

Witnesses said the landlord and two others, who were working on top of the building when it collapsed in the wee hours of the morning, survived.

Daily Trust gathered that the deceased were first taken to a nearby hospital where they were confirmed dead before the corpses were deposited at Iyi-Enu hospital.

The State Police Commissioner, Mr. Korma Horsea, Ogidi Divisional Police Officer, DPO, Mr. Hassan Musa and the President General of Ogidi Union Nigeria, Chief Chuka Onubogu, visited the scene and assisted in the rescue operations.

The CP urged the people in the area to take heart and prayed for the repose of the souls of the dead.

Chief Onubogu attributed the cause of the collapse to fake building materials.

It will be recalled that four buildings collapsed in Anambra in recent times with two at Oko and Amaokpala, both in Orumba North council area, and the other at Abakaliki street Awka, in Awka South council area.
