Students appeal to varsity lecturers to end strike

- From Itodo Daniel Sule, Lokoja

The National Association of Kogi State Students (NAKOSS) yesterday appealed to the striking lecturers of the state university to call off their threemonth strike in the overall interest of the state.

President of the association, Comrade Ahmadu Ibrahim, said at a news briefing in Lokoja that the industrial dispute had impacted negatively on students’ education and future.

Ahmadu said the lecturers should call off their industrial action and give room for negotiation since the government had met about 80 percent of their demands.

The NAKOSS president expressed surprise over the recent ultimatum given to the government to pay the striking lecturers by the leadership of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), saying NAKOSS was never informed before the decision was taken.
