Jealous man in court for beating up fiancée

- By Kamardeen A. Ismail

A 38-year-old man has been arraigned before the Abuja Upper Area Court for allegedly assaulting his fiancée.

The man, it was alleged, beat up his lover after he accused her of flirting with other men.

The accused person, Samuel Ubong, was reported to have beaten up the woman (names withheld) at his residence in Apo Resettlement Area on July 5.

The prosecutor, Barrister John, said the accused and the complainant got into an argument following the allegation of promiscuity made by the man against his would-be wife.

“The accused had vowed to call it quits if the complainant refused to desist from her licentious act,” he added.

“However, this did not go down well with the complainant, who described the allegation against her as baseless and malicious,” he said.

The prosecutor said during the argument, the accused locked the door and beat up the complainant who sustained deep cuts on her hand and back.

The injured fiancée was rescued by some neighbours who took her to a nearby hospital for treatment.

The prosecutor noted that the offence contravened sections 265, 246 and 327 of the penal code.

The accused person pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The judge, Umar Yusuf Kagarko, granted the accused bail in the sum of N50, 000 with a surety in like sum.

The case was adjourned to September 19, for hearing.
