150 girls for No Barriers Summer Basketball Camp

A total of 150 girls between the ages of 8 and 18 will be featuring in this year’s No Barriers Summer Basketball Camp scheduled to hold between July 30 and August 6 at the indoor and outdoor courts of the Abuja National stadium.

The third edition of the camp which started in 2014 is for girls drawn from the Federal capital territory.

Mrs Ada Mark Ogbole sponsor of the camp said the No Barriers 3-on-3 basketball competitio­n for women is aimed at teaching sound basketball fundamenta­ls in a conducive environmen­t where campers will not only compete in the tournament but will also be taught life skills.

She said the camp sanctioned by the Nigeria Basketball Federation will teach the rudiments of basketball between the hours of 8am and 3pm while classes on being a girl will hold to discuss topics like decision making skills, menstruati­on, puberty, healthy friendship­s and sexually transmitte­d infections.

“The camp is open to girls ages 8 to 18 and is expected that 150 girls shall benefit from the programme. All campers will be grouped according to age and ability.”

Speaking on the mode of the tournament, she said, “this tournament uses the same principles and concepts of regulation basketball except that it is played on half court with only six players on the floor.
