Govt to pay bride price of VVF pa­tients

The Sokoto State Gov­ern­ment has un­der­taken to help with bride price for who­ever is in­ter­ested in mar­ry­ing any Vesico-Vagina Fis­tula (VVF) pa­tients

Speak­ing at a min­is­te­rial brief­ing by the Nige­ria Union of Jour­nal­ists (NUJ), Sokoto State Coun­cil, the Com­mis­sioner of Health, Dr Balarabe Kakale, said VVF cases in the state had dras­ti­cally re­duced due to in­ten­sive pub­lic en­light­en­ment on the causes of the dis­ease, and that the state gov­ern­ment was in col­lab­o­ra­tion with the UNFPA and Ac­quire Fis­tula Care Project poised to elim­i­nate the dis­ease.

He how­ever lamented over the at­ti­tude of some hus­bands who he said still dis­al­lowed their wives from an­te­na­tal care al­though it was free.
