Govt to pay bride price of VVF patients

- From Abubakar Auwal, Sokoto

The Sokoto State Government has undertaken to help with bride price for whoever is interested in marrying any Vesico-Vagina Fistula (VVF) patients

Speaking at a ministerial briefing by the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Sokoto State Council, the Commissioner of Health, Dr Balarabe Kakale, said VVF cases in the state had drastically reduced due to intensive public enlightenment on the causes of the disease, and that the state government was in collaboration with the UNFPA and Acquire Fistula Care Project poised to eliminate the disease.

He however lamented over the attitude of some husbands who he said still disallowed their wives from antenatal care although it was free.
