Govt to pay deducted 30% workers’ salaries

- From Abubakar Haruna, Minna

The Niger State Government has said it will pay up the 30 percent deducted from workers’ June salaries.

The Commissioner for Information, Culture and Tourism, Mr. Jonathan Tsado Vatsa stated this in Minna at the weekend, explaining that as soon as the economy improved, workers would be paid the deducted sum.

He said, “The 30 percent shortfall in June salary will be paid. Government has no intention to deny workers their legitimate earnings. The deduction was a temporary measure in view of our financial situation. That is why we have been saying that we have not cut workers’ pay.”

The Commissioner then called on the striking workers to appreciate government’s efforts at ensuring the welfare of workers and return to work.
