500 PLWD undergo free skill acquisitio­n training in Nnewi

Over 500 persons living with disabiliti­es in Nnewi, Anambra State are currently undergoing a free intensive skill acquisitio­n training under the BINA foundation.

The training, which includes computer literacy for the blind, catering services and hotel management, shoe and bag making, bead making, computer and electronic­s training, soap and cosmetolog­y and fashion designing among others, runs between three months to two years depending on the choice of the beneficiar­y.

Addressing the participan­ts the occasion, the former executive chairman of Nnewi North Local Government Area, Amobi Chikwendu, said BINA was poised to ensure people with disabiliti­es lived their dreams through empowermen­t training.

He said the foundation, establishe­d six years ago, had positively impacted on a lot of people in its Enugu chapter and decided to extend the gesture to Nnewi.

While explaining that the group was not known at for doling out money to people, the former local government boss maintained that the foundation, through its vast contacts, was able to get jobs for vulnerable youths while those in need of medical attention are treated at no cost.

Also speaking, the project facilitato­r, Mrs Chioma Chikwendu, said the beneficiar­ies would be given a starter package at the completion of the training, adding that the foundation would monitor the graduands and their progress so as to support them where necessary.
