...Unions ask NERC to obey court verdict

President of Nigeria Labour Congress(NLC),Comrade Ayuba Wabba, has urged the Nigeria Electricity Regulatory Commission(NERC) to obey the court verdict annulling the 45percent increase in the electricity tariff in the country.

Wabba,who spoke at a press conference in Lagos,said the development was necessary in order to set a good precedent in the compliance with the rule of law and allow consumers of electricity enjoy what ordinarily they should be paying as electricity tariff.

He also advised the federal government to ensure that the verdict is enforced to the letter.

“If indeed this is a democratic government that respects the rule of law,the illegal tariff must be reversed ,as we will not hesitate to bring contempt proceedings against whoesoever is to comply or ensure compliance’.

“We must at this point salute the courage of the ever-courageous Justice M.B Idris of the Federal High Court, a very intelligent, hardworking and upright judge, from whose court you don’t just get judgment but justice. That judgment portrays hope for democracy, rule of law, the judiciary and the entire Nigeria.
