Chelsea captain John Terry has sent his best wishes to Demba Ba after the striker suffered a horrendous legbreak on Sunday.

Ba, 31, collapses in agony in the 63rd minute following a challenge from Shanghai SIPG’s Sun Xiang during a Chinese Super League match in Shangai,

The Senegalese striker was playing for Shangai Shenhua in a derby against city rivals Shanghai SIPG when the injury was sustained.

Ba was eventually stretchered from the pitch after a prolonged period of treatment in which the striker received oxygen for his pain. Gregorio Manzano, the coach of Shanghai Shenhua, said he feared the injury could prematurely end Ba’s career.

“It could end his professional career. I would rather lose the game than lose Ba.”

Ba moved to the Chinese Super League side from Besiktas in July 2015 for a £12m fee after a successful career in the Premier League. The former Newcastle frontman is still revered at Chelsea after scoring the infamous Anfield goal which effectively halted Liverpool’s Premier League title charge in 2014.

John Terry, who was teammates with Ba while he was at Stamford Bridge, wished the 31-year-old a speedy recovery on Instagram.

“Terrible news to hear of Demba Ba’s injury today. Wishing you a quick recovery mate.”

The club’s official Twitter account also extended their best wishes to the former Blue. Ba made 33 appearances in his one and only season at Stamford Bridge, scoring seven times. The severity of Demba Ba’s injury has shocked fans and footballers alike. Bayern Munich’s Jerome Boateng wished the injured striker a speedy recovery, while Ba’s former Newcastle teammate Yohan Cabaye tweeted his support. (Telegraph.co.uk)
