Vigilante arrest two over fake notes

-

Two middle - aged men have been apprehended for allegedly being in possession of fake Naira notes amounting to N500,000 at Anagada village, Gwagwalada Area Council of the FCT.

A resident of the community, who simply identified himself as Yahaya, disclosed to our reporter yesterday, that the men were arrested on Monday at about 3:42p.m.

He said that the suspects, who drove in an unmarked Volkswagen Golf car, came to buy some cartons of drinks at a woman’s shop in the village and paid her with fake money.

He said that the two suspects successfully left but they came back because one of them forgot his phone at the woman’s shop. But when they left, she suspected that the money paid her, in N1,000 notes, were fake, he said.

“So it was when they came back to carry the phone that the shop owner raised an alarm,” he said adding that “Some people rushed there and when they discovered that the money was fake, they arrested the suspects.”

He added that members of the vigilante were invited and when they searched the suspects’ bag, they discovered the sum of N500,000 cash, suspected to be fake notes.

The Zuba Divisional Police Officer (DPO), CSP Eze Nwokeneme, could not be reached for comments, but a police officer at the division confirmed the incident, saying that the two men have been charged to court.
