DSS arrests Zamfara speaker, dep, others over plot to impeach Gov Yari

Daily Trust - - ONLINE REACTIONS -

President Muhammadu Buhari promised to fight corruption during his campaigns and so far his government is commendably doing just that. However, honourable members of the Zamfara State House of Assembly have apparently seen a clear case of corruption by the executive arm of their state government under Governor AbdulAziz Yari, which they have clearly stated in this report. According to them, failure to implement the budget, misappropriation and misapplication of funds had been going on for the past five years.

Now, as it is their duty to do so as specified by the Nigerian constitution they resolved to call the governor to order, whether by impeachment or whatever, means but agents of the same government that touts itself as fighting corruption have now arrested the honourable members, obviously because as leader of the governors forum, Governor Yari is presumably in the good books of the government. Even the Honourable Speaker who was attacked by hoodlums was arrested rather than protected, as expected, from them. One wonders whether these same security agents would have raised a finger if the impeachment threat happened to have occurred in a state belonging to an opposition party. S. A. I thought that APC government is so clean that their leaders are above board. But see what is happening in Zamfara State where the sitting governor is being accused of corruption and is being threatened with impeachment. This is Naija. Auta abegyeisaac@yahoo.com
