I killed my daughter after ‘evil forces seized me’ – Suspect

A 38-year-old man, Joseph Ibanga James from Ibiaku-Ikot Udom in Ibiono Ibom Local Government Area of Akwa-Ibom State, has confessed to killing his four-year-old daughter, Glory James, saying it was due to mysterious forces.

James said at the Akwa-Ibom State Police headquarters, Ikot Akpan Abia, Uyo that the incident happened after he ate a meal prepared by his mother and then suddenly lost control of his senses.

He said, “Something just entered into me and urged me to kill my daughter who was fast asleep after I ate the meal prepared for me by my mother. I responded immediately and strangulated the girl. I then took her remains and buried her by the side of a river close to our house. It was after I had done it that my eyes became clear and I began to understand that I had committed a grievous offence. As I got home, my mother asked me the whereabouts of the girl and I could not explain. She alerted the neighbourhood and the police came to arrest me. Frankly, I don’t know what got into me.”

Speaking on the matter, the Akwa Ibom State Commissioner of Police, Murtala Mani, said Ibanga committed murder and would be charged to court.
