Dan­batta is tele­coms per­son­al­ity of the year

The Ex­ec­u­tive Vice Chair­man of the Nige­rian Com­mu­ni­ca­tion Com­mis­sion (NCC), Pro­fes­sor Umar Dan­batta has been awarded the Tele­coms Per­son­al­ity of the Year.

The event, which was at­tended by the Ooni of Ife, Oba Eni­tan Ogun­wusi and Min­is­ter of Com­mu­ni­ca­tion, Bar­ris­ter Ade­bayo Shittu, was held at MUSON Cen­tre in Onikan, La­gos.

Ac­cord­ing to the award’s ci­ta­tions, Dan­batta was named Tele­coms Per­son­al­ity of the Year in recog­ni­tion of his out­stand­ing con­tri­bu­tions to the de­vel­op­ment of the tele­com sec­tor.

In his re­marks, Dan­batta said the award was a re­flec­tion of the kind of work they have been do­ing in the com­mis­sion.

“We have been judged in­ter­na­tion­ally, re­gion­ally and now na­tion­ally point­ing to the reg­u­lar trail ar­se­nals that we are bring­ing to bear in the dis­charge of man­date as­signed to us by the com­mis­sion in a way and man­ner that this will trans­late in the so­cio- eco­nomic de­vel­op­ment of the coun­try,” he added.

Dan­batta ob­tained his BEng, MSc de­gree from the Tech­ni­cal Univer­sity of Wro­claw in Poland and his PhD from Univer­sity of Manch­ester In­sti­tute of Sci­ence and Tech­nol­ogy ( UMIST) UK re­spec­tively.

He has served as a lec­turer in the Depart­ment of Elec­tri­cal En­gi­neer­ing, Fac­ulty of En­gi­neer­ing Tech­nol­ogy of Bayero Univer­sity Kano for 28 years, and held aca­demic po­si­tions of Dean of Fac­ulty and Head of Depart­ment at dif­fer­ent times.

Un­til his ap­point­ment as the EVC of NCC, Dan­batta served as the Act­ing Vice- Chan­cel­lor of the Kano Univer­sity of Sci­ence and Tech­nol­ogy, Wudil.
