The Nigerian Army yesterday said troops from the 82 Division and part of the 2 Division would this weekend, begin a training exercise code named: “Exercise Crocodile Smile” in the South-south of the country.

A statement from army spokesman, Colonel Sani Usman, said yesterday that the exercise would traverse the area of the divisions’ responsibility in the region.

“The aim of the exercise is to (practice) our Special Forces and other units of the Nigerian Army in amphibious and internal security operations in riverine environments and also check criminal activities like kidnapping, militancy and piracy and other forms of criminal activities in support of the civil authority,” the statement said.

It advised members of the public not to panic on the sight of unusual movement of a large number of troops, heavy military weapons and equipment in the areas.
