Group endorses Gbenga Daniel to lead PDP

- By Muideen Olaniyi

A group, PDP New Era, has thrown its support behind a former governor of Ogun State, Otunba Gbenga Daniel, to become the next elected national chairman of the party.

The national convention of the party would soon be held in Port Harcourt, the capital of Rivers State, to elect a national chairman for the PDP.

The group’s secretary, Obute Benji, who spoke on behalf of the group, in Abuja, yesterday, said that after the party had zoned the position of chairman to the South, the South-west should be given the opportunity to occupy the post for the first time in the party’s history.

He said that the group had met with the former governor who promised to consult widely over the call on him to contest the position.

Benji, who stressed the need to end the leadership crisis in the PDP so that the party could be set on the path of regeneration and greatness, said that the former governor had the experience to reposition the party.

“We, members of PDP New Era, had embarked on broad based consultations among party stakeholders, men and women, old and young, leaders and followers on the right person to lead our party to greatness again,” he enthused.
