... tremor occurred 15 times in 3 days – LG boss

The Chairman of Jaba Local Government Area of Kaduna State, Mr. Ben Kure, yesterday said there had been multiple tremors in Kwoi since the first occurred Sunday, saying scientifically, there were no less than 15 occurrences.

Kure, who spoke with our correspondent in Kwoi, said a team of scientists and other experts had visited the area to assess the situation.

He said it was only when the reports were submitted that the actual cause of the tremor would be determined.

He said the Sunday tremor was so severe that it shook building foundations while the second early Monday was as intense and serious.

Villagers in Bathang, the area worst hit, also told our correspondent that they experienced several tremors apart from the two major ones reported.

They said some were mild while others were quite severe and occurred intermittently without warning.

Mrs. Felicia Isaac, whose house was felled by the vibration, told our correspondent that there was a mild tremor yesterday morning but that it was not as severe as the first two.

She said most residents now live in fear as many while many had left as they don’t know what would happen next. She said she chose to stay because there was nowhere to run.

Adamu Kwasau, the village head of Bathang, told Daily Trust that many people had left the village due to heavy land vibrations within the past three days.

“Since there are promises of assistance from several quarters I am appealing to the people not to run but stay calm,” he said.

A member of the House of Representatives from the area, Barrister Sunday Marshall Katung, urged the federal government to take proactive measures against reoccurrence.

Katung urged the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) to provide relief materials to victims.
