Pillars praise fans’ maturity after IfeanyiUbah incident

- By Mansur Abubakar

Kano Pillars FC have commended their mammoth supporters for their matured handling of Saturday’s events at the Sani Abacha stadium, saying that a negative reaction by the fans would’ve escalated the unfortunate situation.

The first game of the season in the Nigeria Professional League ended on a disappointing note as visiting team, FC IfeanyiUbah abandoned the match midway citing questionable officiating by the referee, a situation which created chaos at Pillars historic ground.

Speaking to Daily Trust on the issue which has grabbed national headlines in the last couple of days, Pillars media officer Idris Malikawa described the situation as avoidable, and called on the League Management Company to do the ‘needful’.

“First, we’ll like to commend our fans for staying calm on that day because the situation was a bit chaotic secondly we’ll like to move forward from the incident allowing the league management company to do their job,” Malikawa said.

The ‘Masu Gida’ have a long standing history of crowd disturbances during games at their famous SAS ground in Kofar Mota which makes Saturday’s development calming to both the LMC and neutral fans who want to see trouble free NPFL matches.

The three time NPFL champions are already in Makurdi for their second game of the new season against Lobi Stars which takes place tomorrow at the Aper Aku Stadium in Benue State.
