4 bandits die in gun battle with police

Four armed bandits were killed and one sustained injury when they engaged men of the Kaduna State Police Command in a gun battle in a bush at Jere local government area of the state.

The state Commission­er of Police, Mr. Agyelo Abeh who disclosed this to newsmen at the Command headquarte­rs late Monday while parading suspects, said the police were ready to rid the state of criminals.

“Today, the command recorded a very huge feat in crime prevention by our men on patrol. Based on credible informatio­n, we intercepte­d some armed bandits in Jere, at a particular bush on their way to carry out their nefarious activities and we engaged them in a gun battle and in the process four of the armed bandits were shot, and one sustained serious bullet injuries and arrested alive and the police received 4 AK raffles and their magazines intact, and also a military camouflage uniform which they use for robbery and kidnapping were recovered,” he said.

Mr. Abeh also disclosed that his men during a raid arrested some suspects involved in city crimes such as breaking into shops and super markets and stealing goods. He added, “The command also arrested some suspects with AK 47 during a police stop and search point at Birnin Gawri and some young men specialize­d in operation in Kaduna, Taraba, Jalingo, Makudi, Abuja and other states with items worth million of naira recovered. We have also a one who parades himself as a police officer and who defrauds members of the public.”

He said the police were trying to rid the city of miscreants, even as he expressed worry that young boys carrying knives and stabbing people under the influence of drugs were intensifyi­ng such activity.
