Yobe Govt, SDGs train, provide tools to 300 youths
The Yobe State Government and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) office of the Presidency have provided 300 Yobe youths with various business tools after they were trained on skills acquisition for self-reliance. The 300 beneficiaries were from Gulani, Fune, Nangere, Jakusko, Yusufari and Yunusari local government areas of the state.
In a ceremony at Government House Damaturu yesterday, Governor Gaidam presented the youths with the tools and cash stipends and urged them to use them to establish small businesses and support themselves and their families.
The tools provided include those for carpentry, electrical installations and electronic repairs, furniture making, plumbing, fish farming, and hair salon operations. The training was facilitated by the National Directorate of Employment (NDE) and funded by the Yobe State Government and the SDGs office. In a speech at the ceremony, Governor Gaidam said the Yobe State Government was keen to support youths because, according to him, “Positive contribution of the youths enables a community to develop while their negative activities impact negatively on the socio-economic advancement of the society.”
One of the beneficiaries of the programme, Hauwa Abdullahi said the training had impacted positively on their lives and she hoped to be able to employ others to work for her.
