Shazhi community wants electrification project completed

- By Abubakar Sadiq Isah

Residents of Shazhi community in Kuje Area Council of the FCT have appealed to the authorities of the council, under the leadership of Alhaji Abdullahi D. Galadima, to complete the electrification project abandoned by the previous administration of the council.

A spokesperson of the community, Musa Bezhe, who spoke with Aso Chronicle on Saturday, said it has become necessary to complete the electrification project so that residents will stop living in darkness.

He noted that the completion of the electrification project will no doubt go a long way in improving socio-economic activities in the community, especially with its proximity to Kuje town where many residents trooped to for their businesses.

“Besides, if the electrification project is completed, considering the nearness of this village to Kuje town, socio-economic activities will improve because many people, including artisans are gradually coming to reside here to engage in business,” he said.

He also lamented over the abandonment of the road which links the community to Kuje town, saying the grading was not completed by the past administration of the council.

He added that as a result of the state of the road, many residents joined hands to fix some portions to enable transportation of their crops to Kuje market.

“Actually, the past council chairman, Mr. Shaban Tete, tried to grade part of the road, but along the line, the work stopped, which is seriously affecting us the farmers who always convey farm produce to the market in Kuje. We are urging the council chairman to help in completing the grading,” he added.

Bezhe further appealed to the council authorities to come to their aid in sinking a borehole to cushion the perennial water problem they have been facing in the community, especially at the peak of the dry season, saying women always trekked to the stream to fetch water.

He said the only hand dug borehole, which serves the community is overstretched due to increase in population.

Reacting, the special adviser to the chairman of the council on media and publicity, Usman Haruna, said the council had already set up a committee that is to go round the various communities to ascertain challenges facing each village so that it will be captured in this year’s council budget.
