Yobe APC demotes, recalls suspended officials
The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Yobe State has lifted the sanction on state, local and ward officials suspended last year by the party for alleged insubordination and indiscipline.
In a statement issued to newsmen in Damaturu, the state secretary of the party, Alhaji Abubakar Bakabe, said the suspension was lifted with effect from yesterday. “The party had stripped the affected persons of their offices at the state, local and ward levels. They are now to remain as ordinary members of the party.
“Having demonstrated remorsefulness, the state executive council has lifted the suspension while the indicted officials have been relieved of their offices.
“Similarly, the dissolved party executive councils in Fune, Fika and Potiskum local government areas remain dissolved.
“The state executive council has also endorsed the expulsion of members at the party ward levels in Potiskum Local Government Area,” the statement said.
The statement added that the party took the decision to serve as deterrent to others, instill party discipline and loyalty in the state.
“APC wishes to assure every member of the party of its support, cooperation and equal opportunities to achieve individual and collective ambitions and development of democracy,” the statement said.
It could be recalled that the affected party officials were suspended early last year, on grounds of alleged involvement in anti-party activity, which the party said jeopardized its chances to retain some political positions during the 2015 general elections.
The Yobe APC lost the senatorial, House of Representatives and state Assembly in Yobe Zone B where the affected officials are mostly from.
Daily Trust gathered that the party failed to hold its grip in the zone as a result of protest votes by party members, who resisted the candidates allegedly imposed on them by the party leadership at the state level.
