- By David Ngobua @Ngobuadavid

Chairman of Katsina United FC, Alhaji Aminu Balele Kurfi has said his team of rookies will build on their convincing 2-1 win over Gombe United in their opening NPFL match to record more positive results in the league.

After 15 years in the lower division of the Nigerian League, Katsina United, formerly Spotlight FC returned to the NPFL and announced their return to elite division with a convincing 2-1 at home over fellow returnees, Gombe United FC.

Reacting to the victory, Kurfi who dedicated the victory to Governor Aminu Bello Masari said without the governor’s unflinching support, the result wouldn’t have been possible.

He said the victory over Gombe came as a result of adequate preparation which the team had become the commencement of the season.

Kurfi, therefore, said the home win will inspire better performance from the young players who are eager to make a name in the Nigerian league.

He said already the players have been warned not to be carried away by the victory over Gombe as there are still so many rivers to cross.

“Naturally, we are all very excited by the victory over Gombe United. Winning the first match in any competition is very important.

“We are going to build on this important victory which I want to dedicate to our sports loving governor. He is firmly behind us and we are not going to disappoint him.

“For the boys, they know that this is just the beginning. They have to brace up for the challenges ahead. They are not going to be carried away,” he said.

Katsina United have a mountain to climb when they face Abia Warriors tomorrow in their second match of the season.

Abia Warriors emerged the best team of week one when they won their game 2-1 away against defending champions, Rangers.
