Jos power outage stretches cut in water supply

- From Hir Joseph, Jos

Residents of Jos, the Plateau State capital, are currently enduring water crisis which has stretched for days now, forcing many to rely on water vendors.

There has been public water supply cut in certain locations of the Jos metropolis for a week plus, according to residents, who cried out over the hardship their families are facing with the development.

The state water authority confirmed the cut in water supply for only two days, and passed the blame to power outage. Pastor Lambert Gonzuk, General Manager of the Plateau State Water Board told Daily Trust on phone yesterday that his board was deeply worried by the development, and had directed the plant manager at the Yakubu Gowon Treatment Plant serving the areas affected to make complaints against the power outage.

The water crisis has prompted hike in price of water from water tankers who are making brisk business from the situation.

“We have no option. We are now relying on water vendors selling from dirty tanks,” a resident of Zarmaganda said.

Daily Trust had on Wednesday, reported that much of Jos city is currently enduring from total power outage believed to be caused by fallen lines serving the population in Dadin Kowa, Coka-Cola, Zarmaganda, Rantiya, Holshe, and Abattoir. But JEDC’s Assistant General Manager for Technical Services, Joel Sule had denied the concerns raised by residents without providing explanations.
