FHA Lugbe estate meant for junior civil servants -FHA MD

- By Mustapha Suleiman

The Federal Housing Authority (FHA) estate in Lugbe was originally meant to house junior civil servants, FHA Managing Director Professor Mohammed Aminu, has said.

He said that was the why most of the houses in the area were “very low in terms of aesthetics and designs.”

“They are originally designed to house very junior workers that have been transferred from Lagos to Abuja without accommodation, the more reason why it’s lacking in basic amenities and limited infrastructures,’’ he said.

Prof Aminu said that FHA intended to demolish 290 houses to give way to bigger and better roads, utilities and facilities in the now densely populated estate located along airport road.

Prof. Aminu said the authority has informed the residents` association of Lugbe of the plans. He also said FHA has secured acres of land in Lugbe to build bigger, better and more beautiful houses to resettle them.

According to him, the new sets will have every basic infrastructure befitting of their status as Nigerian citizens.

“Then we will demolish the entire Lugbe because it is a glorified slum. So, we intend, if we have our way to relocate the office of the FCT head office to Lugbe for at least once in a week so we can almost feel the pain living in Lugbe brings and redefine the environment from scratch,” he said.
