Nnamani, Nwobodo say no apology joining APC

Aformer Senate president, Chief Ken Nnamani, said yesterday that he was not forced by anyone to join the All Progressives Congress (APC), saying he acted according to his conscience.

Also, a former governor of old Anambra State, Senator Jim Nwobodo, said that he joined the APC and owed no apology to anybody.

The two politicians spoke separately in their wards in Amechi, Enugu South Local Government Area, Enugu State, while re-registering as members of the APC.

Nnamani, who currently heads the National Electoral Reform Committee, said somebody might call him an opportunist for leaving the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), which made him, but that he did not care.

Addressing notable members of Enugu APC who attended the event, including the Director General of Voice of Nigeria (VON), Osita Okechukwu, National Vice Chairman of the APC (South-East), Emma Eneukwu, state chairman of the party, Ben Nwoye and Chief Onyemuche Nnamani, the former Senate president said as long as God gives him strength, he would continue to identify with the winners.

“In politics of our nation, if you read in between the lines, you will not ask anybody who has finished buying something from the market to buy something for you. He is tired, he will not buy anything.

“You must identify with somebody going to the market. I will not waste my money to invest in a group of people who have finished buying. As God gives me strength, I will identify with potential winners. If that makes me an opportunist, so be it,” he said.

On his part, Senator Nwobodo said: “You cannot talk about APC without the South-East. It’s a tripod. I told politicians that unless the Igbo have what is due to them in Nigeria, there won’t be meaningful progress. “In 2011, my wife voted for Buhari and she said that the person that can make Nigeria stand again is Buhari. A president cannot solve all the problems at the same time; it’s not possible. If you are solving electricity, you focus on it and resolve it; that’s what I will do if I were to be president,” he said.
