Adamawa APC stalwart apologises to Senate
A stalwart of the All Progressives Congress (APC) from Adamawa State, Alhaji Aminu Iyawa, has apologised to the Nigerian Senate over a comment he made last year on their activities.
Iyawa is an ambassadorial nominee from Adamawa State.
“Sometime in 2016, I had written an opinion article about the person of the Senate President and the activities and the performance of the Eighth Senate.
“I have since realised that I made the mistake of relying on weak and mischievous sources to build the article that in the end appeared misleading and injurious to the good image of the Senate.
“I, therefore wish to extend my unreserved apology to His Excellency, the President of the Senate, Senator Bukola Saraki and the entire distinguished membership of the Senate.
“The Senate is no doubt one of the greatest pillars of our democratic institutions that not only facilitates the works carried out by the executive through scrutinizing the national budget and its approval, and through oversight functions, but this parliament of distinguished Nigerians provides protection to the people by way of checking and monitoring the executive.
“Presidential democracy will never be complete without the complementary functions of the Senate, and thus far, this Eighth Senate has done us proud by performing well beyond expectation,” he said.
