Ebonyi varsity students protest poor electricit­y supply

Hundreds of students from Ebonyi State University (EBSU) yesterday staged a peaceful protest against the poor electricit­y supply to residents of Ebonyi state by the Enugu Electricit­y Distributi­on Company (EEDC).

Also joined in the protest which paralyzed business activities of the company and caused traffic holdup along the major roads, were members of the United Labour Congress (ULC), Trade Union Congress (TUC), the National Union of Electricit­y Employees (NUEE) and Senior Staff Associatio­n of Electricit­y and Allied Companies (SSAEAC).

The protesters who marched along major roads in the state capital before they besieged the head office of the EEDC located on Awolowo Street, insisted that the state was currently facing poor electricit­y supply from the company.

Speaking to Journalist­s, the Ebonyi State University Student Union President, Comrade Uguru Leonard who condemned the ‘constant poor epileptic electricit­y supply’ by the EEDC to people of the state, said students were the worst hit. “We can no longer read our books as a result of poor electricit­y supply by EEDC,” he said.

In the same vein, the Special Assistant to the Governor on Students Affairs, Hon. Onwe Gidion said constant ecliptic power supply by the EEDC was a thing of worry for the state, adding that the poor electricit­y supply was causing untold hardship and paralyzing economic activities in the state.
