PDP a sleeping lion — Fayose
Ekiti State governor and chairman of the PDP Governors’ Forum, Mr Ayodele Fayose, has described the party as a “sleeping, and not a dead lion” that needs re-starting to assert its influence.
He said despite its control of the centre, there was no way the APC could match the outreach of the PDP. He therefore asked for support for allinclusive efforts to rebuild the PDP ahead of future challenges.
Fayose spoke when he visited a former governor of Ogun State, Otunba Gbenga Daniel in his Lagos residence.
A statement issued by his Special Assistant on Public Communications and New Media, Lere Olayinka, quoted the governor promising to work with all PDP leaders across the country to make a success of his tenure.
The PDP is sharply divided, with a faction headed by Sen. Ahmed Makarfi and the other loyal to Sen. Ali Modu Sheriff.
Makarfi has the support of most of the PDP governors, including Fayose even as Sen. Buruji Kashamu, a supporter of Sheriff recently said the Ekiti governor does not have the clout to parade himself as chairman of the party’s governors forum.
Fayose in the statement said that the PDP could still boast of the best and established structure across the country, which needs only reactivation by putting all hands on deck.
Earlier when he received a former Minister of Information, Prof. Jerry Gana and a former governorship candidate of the PDP in Lagos State, Mr Jimi Agbaje, who visited the governor at his Lagos residence to congratulate him, Fayose called on all serving and former governors as well as other leaders of the PDP to rise to the rescue of the party.
