Golbe: Plateau Utd not ready for title favourite’s label

- By David Ngobua

Captain of Plateau United, Elisha Golbe has distanced his team from any talks linking them from this year’s NPFL title.

He also said they won’t allow the recent successes to get into their heads as they go into the 4th match of the season against neighbours, Gombe United tomorrow.

Plateau United have recorded a hundred per cent run in the league this term and are presently topping the table with the maximum nine points from three games.

They won the opening match 2-1 away against Remo Stars and returned home to win 3-1 and 1-0 against Enyimba and Sunshine Stars respectively.

Speaking to Daily Trust yesterday, the captain who has so far scored two goals said nobody should feel Plateau United are title favourites as he insisted that the league is a marathon.

He said what Plateau United are doing is to keep working harder because they know that there are still many more rivers to cross.

Golbe maintained that the first target of Plateau United is to try and win a continental ticket but if in the process they win the league, that would be a bonus.

“Everybody in Plateau United is happy with what we have achieved so far. However, we are not going to be carried away.

“We are working hard to get even better results because we know that the league is not a sprint. It is a race that one has to cover a long distance. So to last the distance, we are not going to rest on our oars.

“We are presently topping the table but we don’t look at ourselves are title favourites. We want a continental ticket first but if the title gets to us, we shall take it with all gratitude,” he said.

Golbe attributed the good form of Plateau United to the tactics of Coach Kennedy Boboye and the good recruitment he made before the commencement of the season.
