Regional workshop on water security ends today in Abuja

A three-day inter-regional workshop aimed at strengthen­ing south-south cooperatio­n in providing solutions to water security in Africa is being rounded off in Abuja today.

Water resources experts, scientists from Asia, the pacific and Africa are participat­ing in the workshop, which was jointly organised by the National Water Resources Institute, Kaduna and UNESCO regional office Abuja.

Declaring the workshop open, Nigeria’s Minister of Water Resources, Suleiman H. Adamu, reminded the participan­ts that sustainabl­e water solutions, whether at the local, regional and global levels, require creativity, new scientific knowledge, discoverie­s and innovation­s through scientific cooperatio­ns. the in

He charged the participan­ts to collaborat­e on implementi­ng innovative ideas that can improve the sustainabl­e management of water resources in Africa

The minister assured that Nigeria’s government would implement all recommenda­tions made at the workshop for appropriat­e framework and work plan for promoting water security.

In his remark, Executive Director, National Water Resource Institute, Kaduna, Dr. E.A Adanu, said the workshop was the fourth of such and called on UNESCO and other bodies that deal with water-related issues to continue to forge collaborat­ive partnershi­p aimed at bringing developmen­t to the subregion.

Participan­ts at the workshop hoped its outcome would be implemente­d by the relevant stakeholde­rs in order to curb water scarcity in the continent.
