Convention: APC inaugurates constitution review c’ttee
The national chairman of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Chief John Odigie-Oyegun, yesterday inaugurated the Muiz Banire - led constitution review committee ahead of the party’s forthcoming mid-term non-elective national convention.
The membership of the committee comprises governors, senators, National Working Committee (NWC) members, the party’s national organizing secretary, Senator Osita Izunaso, and the minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Mohammed Musa Bello among others.
Chief Odigie-Oyegun said the inauguration of the committee was an important step needed to be taken before the convention scheduled to take place within the next couple of months.
He recalled that the last National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting had agreed to review some aspects of the party’s constitution, particularly with respect to the name, size and structure of its Board of Trustees (BoT).
The APC chairman, who described the BoT issue as “the principal trigger for the constitutional review,” added that the party expects a “trimmer and more focused” BoT in terms of objectives at the end of the exercise.
“We would also urge you to take advantage of the opportunity to look at other aspects of the constitution we used for almost three years now, at the very least, with a view to really cementing the processes and provisions and permanently institutionalizing internal democracy as a focus for this party,” he said.
