- By Abubakar Sadiq Isah

The Yebu Ward Women Association (YWWA) in Kwali Area Council has urged the chairman of the council, Mr. Joseph Shazhin, to expedite action on providing soft loans to women to help them start up businesses.

The leader of the association, Mrs. Adama Ismai’la, made the request when she led other members of the group on a courtesy visit to the speaker of the council, Mr.Yohanna Gado Amos, in his office recently.

She said the visit was to intimate the council speaker on the effort of the council chairman’s wife, Mrs. Comfort Shazhin, to secure micro loans for them to startup businesses, and the need for empowering women to be self-employed.

She also stressed the need for other relevant stakeholders to do their best by putting the necessary measures in place to ensure that the women are fully engaged in petty trading to support their families.

She therefore urged those involved in facilitating the loan process to fast track the arrangement in order to assist the beneficiaries meet up with their business plans.

Responding, the speaker of the council, Mr. Amos, said he was elated by their visit, saying such visit was the first of its kind since he assumed the office of speaker of the council.

He advised them to exercise more patience, saying arrangements are in progress to secure the loan for them.

He advised them to use the money judiciously as soon as it will be disbursed to them.

“You people should use this money that is being processed for your businesses for what is meant for, not any other means,” he said.
