Ayagwa relishes Lobi’s draw with Rivers Utd

- By David Ngobua

Lobi Stars combative defensive midfielder, Raphael Viashima Ayagwa has expressed happiness over the draw Makurdi side picked against Rivers United in their Match Day 5 clash in Port-Harcourt on Sunday.

After hammering ABS 3-0 at home in their previous match, Lobi Stars travelled to last year’s runners-up where they forced the CAF Champions League campaigners to a 0-0 draw at the Yakubu Gowon stadium.

Speaking to Daily Trust yesterday, the midfielder said it was a very tough encounter but Lobi Stars were determined to start earning points on the road.

He said before the match against Rivers United, Lobi had not won a single point away from home and it was beginning to appear as if they were bad travellers.

Lobi had lost 2-0 in their opening match away against 3SC before they were again whipped 4-0 by MFM in Lagos in their second away fixture.

Consequently, Ayagwa said the 0-0 draw against Rivers United on Sunday will go a long way in restoring the sagging confidence among the players.

“It was a difficult match but we held our nerves to pick the important away point. Before now, we lost two away matches against 3SC and MFM so we needed a result that would help us recover our away mood.

“Now that we have got a point against a formidable side like Rivers United, we are not going to look back. We would go for the maximum points in our next away match.

“For us to get to where we want to be, we must be ready to fight for away points. This is not an easy task but we have the quality to win away from home,” he said.

Lobi will return home to host Wikki Tourists before travelling to Enugu for their next away match against defending champions Rangers.
