Abuja airport closure: FG inaugurate­s security sub-committee

Ahead of the closure of Abuja airport March 8, the minister of state, Aviation, Capt. Hadi Sirika, yesterday inaugurate­d the security sub-committee of the Abuja runway closure.

The committee, which has a broad responsibi­lity of ensuring safety of air passengers from Abuja to Kaduna airport and from the Kaduna airport to Abuja, has the Nigerian Police Force (NPF) as chairman.

Other members of the sub-committee include: the director Safety and Technical Policy (vice chairman), Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA), Department of State Security (DSS), Nigerian Air Force (NAF), Nigeria Army (NA), Nigerian Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSDC), Nigerian Customs Service (NCS), Nigerian Immigratio­n Service (NIS), FAAN, Aviation Security (AVSEC), Department of Air Transport and the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC).

The minister said while the federal government will provide the necessary support and logistics for the smooth operations of the sub-committee, they should provide water-tight security during the massive movement of passengers, cargo, and luggage to and from Kaduna.

Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG) in Charge of Operations, Alkali Usman Baba, who is heading the committee, pledged the committee’s willingnes­s to do the job diligently, adding that the police and FRSC have already deployed personnel on the Abuja-Kaduna road.
