New Auditor-General vows openness, transparency
The Auditor - General for the Federation, Mr. Anthony Ayine has met senior staff of the Office of the Auditor - General for the Federation and taksed them on selfless service to Nigeria.
Mr. Ayine gave the charge during an interactive session with audit staff on Salary Grade Level 13 to 16 on Wednesday, in Abuja, a statement from the deputy director, Media & Public Relations Mrs. Olawunmi Ogunmosunle said.
The statement said the Auditor - General pointed out that the future of the Office depends on the staff, hence the responsibility to deliver.
According to him work performance and character are what will make an officer stand out in the discharge of his duties.
Mr Ayine said the Office has the constitutional mandate to be at the forefront of ensuring public accountability, transparency and integrity in governance adding that the Office must have a distinct corporate culture of distinctive approach to things, integrity and discipline.
The Auditor - General implored staff to be dedicated and thorough in the discharge of their duties. According to him since the end product of every audit work is a good quality audit report, audit should be properly planned and executed to detect errors and fraud.
The Auditor - General promised to run an open government where there will be fairness and justice to all. He said grievances will be given quick response to prevent bottling - up of anger. He also promised to ensure that the working environment is conducive and the welfare of staff given necessary attention.
Mr Ayine appealed for “esprit de corps” and a high level of understanding, commitment and discipline among staff for the Office to be successful in discharging its responsibilities.
He also promised that the Office will reach out more to the National Assembly and have robust engagements with them so that the work of the Office can be strengthened
The meeting is in continuation of the series of engagements between the Auditor-General for the Federation and the different level of officers in the Office of the Auditor-General for the Federation.
