New Auditor-General vows openness, transparen­cy

The Auditor - General for the Federation, Mr. Anthony Ayine has met senior staff of the Office of the Auditor - General for the Federation and taksed them on selfless service to Nigeria.

Mr. Ayine gave the charge during an interactiv­e session with audit staff on Salary Grade Level 13 to 16 on Wednesday, in Abuja, a statement from the deputy director, Media & Public Relations Mrs. Olawunmi Ogunmosunl­e said.

The statement said the Auditor - General pointed out that the future of the Office depends on the staff, hence the responsibi­lity to deliver.

According to him work performanc­e and character are what will make an officer stand out in the discharge of his duties.

Mr Ayine said the Office has the constituti­onal mandate to be at the forefront of ensuring public accountabi­lity, transparen­cy and integrity in governance adding that the Office must have a distinct corporate culture of distinctiv­e approach to things, integrity and discipline.

The Auditor - General implored staff to be dedicated and thorough in the discharge of their duties. According to him since the end product of every audit work is a good quality audit report, audit should be properly planned and executed to detect errors and fraud.

The Auditor - General promised to run an open government where there will be fairness and justice to all. He said grievances will be given quick response to prevent bottling - up of anger. He also promised to ensure that the working environmen­t is conducive and the welfare of staff given necessary attention.

Mr Ayine appealed for “esprit de corps” and a high level of understand­ing, commitment and discipline among staff for the Office to be successful in dischargin­g its responsibi­lities.

He also promised that the Office will reach out more to the National Assembly and have robust engagement­s with them so that the work of the Office can be strengthen­ed

The meeting is in continuati­on of the series of engagement­s between the Auditor-General for the Federation and the different level of officers in the Office of the Auditor-General for the Federation.
