FRCN pensioners decry delayed payment of pension

- From Christiana T. Alabi, Kaduna

Pensioners of Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria (FRCN), Kaduna, yesterday decried what they described as undue delay and in some instances nonpayment of pension.

A letter signed by the chairman and secretary of the Nigeria Union of Pensioners (NUP), FRCN Kaduna chapter, Ahmed Ibrahim Jikamshi and Bara’u Bala Kaya, respectively and addressed to the Director General of Pension Transitional Arrangement Directorate (PTAD), recalled that the payment for the month of November, 2016 was effected in the third week of December 2016.

The letter said some of their members were yet to be paid December 2016 pension.

“This unhealthy development contravenes Mr. President’s commitment to the welfare of the generality of Nigerians particularly retired workers who put in the better part of their lives to the service of the nation,” the statement said.

The pensioners also lamented omission of names of some pensioners from monthly payment, saying it took several months before such cases were rectified.

The association sought further clarification on the 30 months outstanding 33 per cent increase of pension arrears already paid to some organizations including the military and paramilitary pensioners while others were yet to benefit.

It appealed to the authorities concerned, including PTAD and the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), to come up with clear explanation on why such anomalies are being experienced by senior citizens of the country.
