Re: Goje is problem of Gombe APC
After I read through a Daily Trust correspondent’s report from Gombe as published on Monday February, 6, 2017, I was stunned and alarmed not only by the content, timing and source of the allegation, but also by the clear subjectivity displayed by the reporter.
According to the report, the state Caretaker Committee Chairman was quoted to have described distinguished Senator Danjuma Goje as such. Even though I am not in a position to speak for Senator Goje, but as a member of the APC in Gombe state, I owe it a duty to make certain clarifications. Simply put, one can easily question the rationale behind this malicious press briefing by the Chairman which is directly giving APC Gombe some semblance of political crisis within its own family when it is almost less than two weeks to participate in the forthcoming Local Government elections. It is therefore very unfair, ill-timed and unnecessary, since it is purely his own opinion about Senator Goje as indicated in the report. Similarly, the reporter did not help matters at all by being very economical with the truth when he attributed his source not only to the Chairman on one hand but again to the members of the Caretaker Committee in another. By speaking from both sides of his mouth, it is rather difficult for a reader to clearly understand whether the entire exco members equally share this opinion about Goje, notwithstanding the fact that the reporter has claimed to be a witness to the physical assault on Capt. Bala Jibrin. It is therefore a very premature judgment.
Furthermore, Capt. Bala Jibrin should have first appreciated Senator Goje as a crowd puller who almost single handedly influenced the decamping of key PDP chieftains to APC in Gombe State and therefore couldn’t have been its problem. Capt. Bala Jibrin also equally knew how Senator Goje vigorously campaigned for the party’s Presidential and Gubernatorial candidates during the 2015 general elections, in addition to how he fought and won his election as a Senator under the party. It should be noted that Senator Goje was in faraway Abuja when the said meeting was held in Gombe. How then could he have been a problem to the meeting or to the party? Mohammed Ahmed Yidikawu, Gombe
