APC clears Yobe LG polls
Governor Ibrahim Gaidam said yesterday that he was “hugely grateful” to the people of Yobe State for reaffirming their faith in the APC by electing all the party’s candidates in last Saturday’s local government election.
Gaidam said that all the APC chairmanship candidates won in the election which showed the degree to which the party’s manifesto remained an appealing document to most of the people of the state.
The governor, in a statement signed by his Director of Press Affairs, Abdullahi Bego, said he was also pleased that a significant number of registered voters across the state participated in the election and voted for the candidates of their choice. “Governor Gaidam strongly believes that given the security and other challenges that the state has experienced in the recent past, last weekend’s polls, which were commendably peaceful, can give us hope that normalcy has returned, and that we can take pride in our capacity as a people to collectively organise and participate in elections at the grassroots level,” the statement said.
In a related development, Bego said contrary to reports that voter turnout in the election was low, patronage by the electorate was impressive.
“Just look at the numbers, of the three areas visited by the reporter, the APC candidate in Potiskum Local Government won with 41,159 votes. In Fune Local Government, the APC candidate won with 62,121 votes while in Damaturu Local Government, the APC candidate won with 20,484 votes.
“These numbers show that mobilisation by the APC yielded the desired result not just in winning the votes overall but in getting people out to cast their votes,” he said.
