CITY NEWS Cyclist hacked to death in Kuje

- By Abubakar Sadiq Isah

A27-year-old man, Isa Aji, was hacked to death by men suspected to be motorcycle snatchers on Friday night near the mini Kuje township stadium.

A resident of the area, who preferred anonymity, confirmed the incident to our reporter yesterday, saying it happened about 9;12p.m.

He said the deceased, whose corpse was found around the stadium on Saturday morning was a commercial cyclist in the area, saying he was called on phone by a yet to be identified person to the area and he was allegedly stabbed all over his body.

“It was on Saturday morning that a passerby saw the corpse of the cyclist with cuts on it, and the police were alerted. They came and took away the corpse,” he said.

Our reporter learnt that the remains of the cyclist, who is from Jigawa State, was later handed over to the Hausa community in the area and was buried same day according to Islamic rites.

Meanwhile, the chairman of the council, Alhaji Abdullahi D. Galadima, who confirmed the incident, expressed shock over the murder of the cyclist.

He called on security agents in the area to ensure those behind the killing of the cyclist were arrested and made to face the wrath of the law.

“It is unfortunate that some hoodlums are now trying to convert the stadium into a place where they can commit any atrocity, but we must get rid of them no matter where they are hiding. And I want to call on security agents to ensure they fish out those behind the gruesome murder of the cyclist,” he said.

The Kuje Divisional Police Officer (DPO), Sunday Irek, declined comments and referred our reporter to the FCT police command’s public relations officer.

When contacted, the FCT police spokesman, Anjuguri Manzah, said the police were alerted when the corpse was seen near the stadium. He said police went and evacuated the corpse and handed it over to the family for burial, adding that efforts are on to arrest the killers.
