CAC: Staff conditions to call off strike not tenable
The Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) has described the industrial action embarked upon by its staff over welfare as uncalled for.
This was contained in a reaction by the CAC to the strike action by the commission’s chapter of Amalgamated Union of Public Corporations, Civil Service, Technical and Recreational Services Employees (AUPCTRE).
The union said the industrial action was to protest the commission’s failure to implement a four year agreement to bridge the salary gap between the executive and non-executive staff.
The commission however said it had made representation to the Salaries and Wages Commission, which is the organ of government responsible for such matters.
“The commission has been circumspect and prudent in the management of its finances. Unlike some other government agencies, it has not experienced cases of accumulated salary arrears due mainly to the prudent management of resources,” CAC said.
It said it would continue to regard its staff as its greatest asset and therefore had always paid staff salaries and allowances as at when due.
AUPCTRE Chairman, Comrade Ibrahim Kirfi, told Daily Trust that the industrial action had started yesterday and members would not report to the commission today for work.
