SME: Amaechi backs reforms for Okada, Keke riders’ operators
Amalgamated Commercial Tricycles and Motorcycles Owners, Repairers and Riders Association (ACTMORRA) has said it is unfolding a comprehensive programme that will see all Okada and Keke operators get registered.
ACTMORRA also said in addition to registering all members currently estimated at 12 million nationwide, all their motorcycles and Keke will be installed with tracking devices so that it can monitor all members’ activities to reduce crime and accidents.
The National President of the association, Babangida Shehu Maihula, disclosed this when he led members of his executive on a courtesy call on the Minister of Transportation, Mr. Rotimi Amaechi in Abuja.
He said with about 12 million members nationwide, the Association needs sanitation so that it can serve commuters better and add value to the economy, adding that all the initiatives will be unveiled February 28, 2017 at conference at the Shehu Musa Yar’adua centre, Abuja.
“We can’t say at a particular time that all our members are registered but on a daily basis, we are always updating the data. But now, we want to capture everyone’s data. Then we will have a tracking device that we will put on the bike and take their data to know who is operating a bike at any particular location,” Maihula said.
Responding, the minister pledged his support to the association and offered to assist them in their programmes.
