Attention, JAMB registrar

-

Sir, I write with regards to recent postponement by JAMB to begin the sale of forms for 2017/2018 session. As it has been noted previously, the sale of JAMB forms has always been commenced early in the month of November, and the examination, that always be held between February-March. But, due to some revolutionary changes that has been taking place as a result of new management of the JAMB body, starting lately in the previous year, the examination body is yet to officially announce neither the date for the commencement of this year’s examination nor the date in which the sale of forms will begin.

And, there are several instances in which JAMB has publicly in some National dailies declared that, it hasn’t yet commenced the sale of forms for the upcoming session, because of the new management that was put in place and its desire to achieve things effectively.

Some candidates, out of negligence have resorted to giving out their money to some mischievous, unscrupulous individuals claiming that the sale of

2017/2018 JAMB forms have already began. There was an eagerly candidate whom I was discussing with lately, he has been told that the purchase of this year’s JAMB form is N8,000 while there is an extra N500 for the registration. Furthermore, another candidate said he has paid N15,000 to an individual who claimed that he’s a staff of JAMB office in Abuja, and that this year’s JAMB forms would be difficult to get as there are certain number of students that have been fixed which JAMB wants to accommodate this year.

Many more rumours have been spreading lately. It’s understandable, as the new management wants a new and effective method for the smooth process of the examination, peculiar to how it has been conducted in recent years, especially when the previous management decided to start using CBT instead of PBT format. There were numerous problems encountered when the CBT examination was implemented. The gradual, ongoing reformation process can be seen as a sign of relief to this year’s awaiting candidates who have heard how the Computer Test had faced some irrelevant problems last year. But, on the other hand, if the restructuring keeps consuming time, causing an extended delay, even creating opportunities for some individuals to start extracting money from candidates, that’s a measure of concern and a matter to look in to. As a concerned citizen, I see it as a responsibility to let you become aware of these mischievous acts. And, to suggest that, it’s better if the new JAMB management continue with the restructuring process, but let it be for long term use that could be implement for the next coming 2018/2019 academic session, and in the meantime, implement previous year’s plan for the 2017/2018 session, as it has been used by the previous management in order to avoid an extensive delay for this year’s examination. For; there are much more unnecessary confusion(s) bedeviling the proposed changes, and there is no sufficient time to implement the changes the new management had in mind within this year.

I urge you to take a serious decision on this matter.

Aysha Mahmoud, Abuja.
