Crisis rocks JUSUN in Nasarawa

- From Hassan Ibrahim, Lafia

The executive members of the Judicial Staff Union of Nigeria (JUSUN), Nasarawa state chapter, have challenged some aggrieved members of the union who queried the recent amendment of the union’s constitution to seek redress in court.

Chairman of the union, Jimoh Musa, who made the position of the union known in an interview with newsmen yesterday in Lafia, urged other members of JUSUN in the state and the general public to ignore the aggrieved members because all constitutional steps needed to amend the constitution were taken by the state and the national body.

Some members had earlier held a press briefing challenging the legitimacy of the recently amended constitution of the union because according to them the process for amending their constitution was not duly followed.

Musa said, “The leader of the group is a legal person. So I expect him to handle the issue the right way. They should go to court if they have a case to prove. We on our part have all the documents to defend the state and national body that all due process was followed before the amendment.”

The group under the leadership of Alhaji Muhammed Noma had on February 11 held a press conference and resolved to reject the recently released 2016 amended constitution of the union.

“Before any constitution can be amended, there are some provisions in rule 35 which says the proposed amended section must be sent to all branches in Nigeria to give their input and know where the constitution is supposed to be amended. But to our greatest dismay, there was nothing sent to us and the executive council members in the state never called anyone on the amendment,” Noma had said.
