- By Taiwo Adeniyi

A driver abandoned his vehicle after knocking down an official of the Federal Road Safety Corps on the Abuja-Lokoja Expressway.

The FRSC official, Saidu Suleiman, was knocked down while attempting to flag down a bus.

City News learnt that he sustained injuries and was taken to hospital.

A report made to the sector commander signed by the Abaji Unit Commander, Assistant Corps Commander Olasupo A. Esuruoso, said the driver of the vehicle with registration number PT 291 AAA abandoned the vehicle and ran away with the vehicle’s key.

The report dated February 14 and documents retrieved from the vehicle gave the name of the driver as Joseph from Kagini.

“Some documents retrieved from the vehicle suggested that the driver is Mr. E.E. Joseph of Kagini on Dei-Dei Expressway, Abuja. Also, an unpaid notice of offense sheet issued to the driver by the command’s patrol team on 26 January, 2017 was retrieved from the vehicle,” the report said.

Esuruoso said the FRSC official attempted flagging down a bus but the driver “increased speed with the intention to scare away” the officer.

He said the officer jumped to the road shoulder while another vehicle which also refused to stop for the other team members ran over him and dragged him on the highway.

The marshal was rushed to the General Hospital Abaji where he received treatment.

City News understands that he was bleeding profusely from his nose and ears. The bleeding could not stop and was then taken to the University of Abuja Teaching Hospital, Gwagwalada.
