AMAC to enforce ban on liquor sale to minors
The Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC) is working on enforcing the ban on sale of liquor to children and in restricted places including motor parks, hospitals and worship centres.
AMAC chairman, Abdullahi Adamu Candido, made this known during a twoday seminar on liquor act compliance on Wednesday.
Candido who was represented by the Supervisory Councillor on Education, Sports and Social Development, Gabriel Bravo Oluohu, said the era of people selling liquor with total disregard to the law is over.
He said the seminar was organised to ensure that liquor sellers are well informed about the provisions of the act in order to ensure strict compliance.
A senior officer at the legal department of the FCT police command, Barr. Umoh Inah, who presented a paper titled, “Unlawful Sale/Possession of Liquor: Its Effect on Security Management,” called for a harmonisation of the AMAC bye-laws with the constitution to ensure efficiency, saying that some locally brewed drinks are not covered in the byelaw. He commended the area council for the initiative, adding that crime will reduce once liquor sale was licensed.
Chairman of the occasion, Lagi Innocent, stressed the importance of regulation in the society adding that the public needed to know that there is a law that guides liquor sale.
Security officials, including the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Nigeria Drug Law and Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) were among those that presented papers to the participants drawn from all the wards in the council.
