Plateau extend MPFL lead
Plateau United yesterday bounce back from last weekend’s setback in Uyo to extend their lead to five points in the Nigeria Professional Football League after a 2-0 win over visiting Sunshine Stars of Akure in Jos.
The win took their points tally to 20 from nine games, while El-Kanemi Warriors who shocked host Abia Warriors 1-0 are second on the log with 15 points.
Abubakar Bukola Saraki (ABS) FC are third with 14 points from eight matches, while MFM who have two outstanding games are fourth on the standings with 13 points.
Gombe United were held to a goalless draw at home by Akwa United, while the match between Katsina United and visiting Shooting Stars of Ibadan ended 1-1.
In Lafia, Nasarawa United were held to a 1-1 draw by Sunshine Stars, just as the tie between host Remo Stars and Lobi Stars also ended 1-1.
Abia Warriors head coach, Okey Emordi expressed shock for the loss to El-Kanemi Warriors.
“It was a very unfortunate result losing on home ground to El Kanemi Warriors. We never bargained for the poor result as this is a game we could have won comfortably.
“I think everybody puts his legs wrongly in the entire duration of the match, it’s truly a bad day for us.
“Very unfortunate the encounter ended poorly for us after a good match practice.
“Well, it has come to pass we cannot do anything on the outcome of the match, we have to put it behind us to forge ahead on reclaiming the points in other matches.
“Definitely, today (Sunday) is a bad day that we got everything wrong,” said the former Enyimba and Enugu Rangers coach to supersport.com.
The loss to El Kanemi Warriors leaves Abia Warriors total earning at 11 points from possible 27 in the nine-week old top-flight.
