The Chairman of Bwari Area Council, Musa Dikko, has said the council is surrounded by hoodlums and people that do not want peace in the area.

Dikko, who spoke at the coronation ceremony of the Esu of Dutse-Pe community, Chief James Yahaya Shawo, on Saturday, urged traditional rulers to always be security conscious and know the kind of people that come to stay in their domains.

He also urged religious leaders to watch out and try to know the kind of people who come to worship in their churches and mosques, saying “but these people are now living among us as ushers, as church members, as imams. Please, let’s watch out, as we are doing our best to protect and contain these people.”

The chairman said the council has already signed a bye-law, which will give priority to traditional institutions in the council.

He said the council is working with the legislative arm of the council to ensure that the bye-law is properly gazetted, assuring that the council will increase salaries and allowances of the traditional rulers in the council.

Also speaking, the newly coronated Esu of Dutse-Pe, Chief James Yahaya Shawo, expressed happiness for ascending the chieftaincy stool, assuring that peace and harmony would always be his watch word in his domain.

He therefore called on all sons and daughters of the community as well as other residents to support him in the quest for peace and development.

City News report that the occasion also witnessed traditional dances by various masquerades, gun shots and presentation of certificates to traditional title holders of the chiefdom. An early morning fire razed down 15 make-shift wooden sheds in Kuje main market on Friday. A witness, Aliyu Gambo, said the fire, which cause was yet to be ascertained, broke out at 6:25a.m.

He said a thick smoke was coming from one of the sheds which attracted the attention of some traders.

He said only property, such as sewing machines and new clothes, were burnt as the sheds were newly erected by some traders due to the ongoing construction at the main market by a private developer.

“It was only few things that got burnt inside the sheds, which are mostly tailoring sheds. Most of the traders who erected them were yet to pack in their goods when the fire incident occurred,” he said.

Our reporter learnt that before the arrival of men of the fire service from Gwagwalada, the fire had destroyed the sheds.
