Why Jaiz Zakat doled out N41m to poor Nigerians – Mutallab

The Acting Chairman of Jaiz Zakat and Waqf Trust Fund, Alhaji Umaru Abdul Mutallab, has said the Fund doled out N41million to poor Nigerians to empower them economical­ly and reduce poverty in the country.

Alhaji Mutallab spoke in Abuja yesterday at the Zakat distributi­on ceremony organised by the Fund where about N3.5m was given to some poor residents of the federal capital city.

He said about N37m had earlier been doled out to the poor in the Northeast, Southeast and South-south regions of the country in the last four months.

He said Jaiz zakat was poised to impact positively in the life of the common man as well as uplift the living standards of the poor Nigerians.

“So far, we have distribute­d N36.6m zakat fund in Enugu, Ebonyi, Abia, Imo, Rivers, Bayelsa, Cross River, Borno, Yobe and Adamawa states. In sha Allah today, we are set to conclude the remaining distributi­on of N3.5m to 60 beneficiar­ies from all six local council areas in the Federal Capital Territory”, he said.

Yesterday’s distributi­on in Abuja summed it up to N40.2m as total Zakat fund being disbursed to about 1,000 poor Nigerians, according to him.

The Jaiz Zakat’s Executive Secretary, Imam Abdullahi Shuaib said more wealth y Muslims should pay their Zakat so the poor could benefit from their wealth.
